A Parish Family, served by the Missionaries of St. Charles / Scalabrinians
In 1961, the Archdiocese of San Francisco entrusted Holy Cross to the Missionaries of St. Charles Borromeo, also known as the Scalabrinians. At that time, many of the students in San Jose did not attend CCD classes in a regular school. According to some of our senior parishioners, they attended classes either in a garage or the homes of volunteer catechists. In 1970, the Pastor - with the support of the local parishioners - decided to build a school for faith formation only. Thusly, all the students and catechists had a permanent building to learn and teach about their faith. At that time, the catechists would pick up the students during the week from Grant School and take them to Holy Cross for religion classes. It is also said that Holy Cross CCD had a school bus that would go all over the Valley to pick up students.
It was May 23rd, 1974, the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord, that the present CCD Center was completed and dedicated by Archbishop Joseph T. McGucken of San Francisco.
