Stained-Glass Windows of Holy Cross

- The eight historic windows in our church building are exceptionally beautiful. Tradition has it that they were made in Germany, over a hundred years ago, and based on the looks, materials and style, it’s very likely that they have the same origin as some of the stained-glass windows of our Mother Church in the Diocese, St. Joseph’s Cathedral-Basilica.
  During a Sunday afternoon in the Autumn of 2014, when a fire destroyed the original church, the San Jose Firefighters arrived at the site and realized there was not much to do regarding the building for by the time of their arrival, the roof had caved in, and the rest of the structure was very compromised.
  For many years, the San Jose Fire Department had celebrated their yearly memorial mass for all the deceased firemen at Holy Cross; because of this, many of them were familiar with the church and its artistic windows. On that afternoon, when they realized little could be done to save the structure, they focused on protecting the stained-glass windows from the fire. Thanks to their effort on that day, those historical pieces of art were saved. We are honored to continue hosting the memorial service for the fire department every year in our Parish where they can pray to God and continue to enjoy the kaleidoscope of light that our church can still offer thanks to their efforts and dedication to our Parish on that sorrowful day.
