A Parish Family, served by the Missionaries of St. Charles / Scalabrinians
The eight historic windows in our church building are exceptionally beautiful. Tradition has it that they were made in Germany, over a hundred years ago, and based on the looks, materials and style, it’s very likely that they have the same origin as some of the stained-glass windows of our Mother Church in the Diocese, St. Joseph’s Cathedral-Basilica.
During a Sunday afternoon in the Autumn of 2014, when a fire destroyed the original church, the San Jose Firefighters arrived at the site and realized there was not much to do regarding the building for by the time of their arrival, the roof had caved in, and the rest of the structure was very compromised.
For many years, the San Jose Fire Department had celebrated their yearly memorial mass for all the deceased firemen at Holy Cross; because of this, many of them were familiar with the church and its artistic windows. On that afternoon, when they realized little could be done to save the structure, they focused on protecting the stained-glass windows from the fire. Thanks to their effort on that day, those historical pieces of art were saved. We are honored to continue hosting the memorial service for the fire department every year in our Parish where they can pray to God and continue to enjoy the kaleidoscope of light that our church can still offer thanks to their efforts and dedication to our Parish on that sorrowful day.
You can visit our Church and take part of our liturgical services or devotions, or you can spend time in personal meditation while engulfed by the multicolor natural light that fills the Sacred Space.
St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our protection against the wickedness
and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.
O God,
You raised up St. John the Baptist
to prepare a perfect path for Christ.
We call upon St. John’s intercession
to properly prepare us
with a true sense of repentance
to receive Your grace and salvation.
Make us faithful to Truth and justice,
as You did Your servant, John the Baptist,
herald of Your Son’s birth and death.
Lord, may You increase Your life within us.
Amen.
St. Anthony,
model of great holiness,
help me to live as a worthy child of God,
faithful to the promises of my Baptism.
You know how serious the dangers
and difficulties of my life are.
Grant that I may overcome all temptations to evil
and have the courage
to witness to my faith.
Obtain for me, from Our Divine Savior,
a heart that is capable of loving God above all things,
and open my soul to a generous
and sincere love of my neighbor.
Help me to be willing to assist and serve
anyone who is in need.
Encourage me by your holy example,
so that I may be most open and receptive
to God’s perfect and all-powerful love.
Amen.
O most holy and merciful Virgin,
Maria Santissima della Vetrana,
Mother of grace and consolation,
we come before you
with hearts full of love and devotion.
You, who in times of plague and suffering
extended your maternal protection
over your people,
continue to intercede for us
before your Divine Son.
O Blessed Mother,
you are our refuge in moments of distress,
our comfort in sorrow,
and our hope in times of trial.
Holy Mother, Maria Santissima della Vetrana,
pray for us now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
O glorious St. Agnes, virgin and martyr,
you remained pure and faithful to Christ,
even in the face of suffering and death.
Your love for the Lord was stronger than fear,
and your heart burned with divine grace.
Intercede for us, dear saint,
that we may remain steadfast in our faith,
courageous in our trials,
and pure in heart and soul.
Help us to love Christ
with the same fervor that you did,
to trust in His providence,
and to seek His will in all things.
O gentle and holy Agnes, protect the young,
guide those who struggle with faith,
and inspire us to live with the same devotion
and holiness that led you to eternal glory.
Amen.
O glorious St. Joseph,
faithful protector
and guardian of the Holy Family,
we turn to you in our need,
seeking your powerful intercession.
You, who cared for Jesus with a father’s love,
teach us to trust in God’s providence.
You, who labored humbly as a carpenter,
help us to find dignity in our work
and to offer all we do for the glory of God.
O chaste and just St. Joseph,
defend our families from all harm,
guide us in times of trial,
and strengthen us in faith, hope, and love.
St. Joseph, patron of the Universal Church, pray for us!
Amen.
Our Lady of the Holy Rosary,
Mother of mercy and Queen of Heaven,
we turn to you with love and confidence.
You have given us the Rosary
as a powerful weapon against sin, evil, and despair.
Through this sacred prayer,
you lead us to your Son, Jesus Christ,
guiding us through His life, His Passion,
and His glorious Resurrection.
O loving Mother, Intercede for us,
that we may receive the blessings we seek,
peace in our hearts, strength in our trials,
and the joy of eternal life with you and your Son.
Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, protect our families,
strengthen our Church,
and bring all souls closer to the heart of Jesus.
May your powerful intercession lead us to holiness
and the triumph of God’s love in the world.
Amen.
O Most Sacred Heart of Jesus,
fountain of love and mercy,
we come before You with humble hearts,
seeking Your grace and compassion.
Burning with love for us,
Your Heart was pierced on the Cross,
offering redemption to the world.
O Divine Heart, fill us with the fire of Your love,
that we may love You above all things
and love our neighbors as ourselves.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, we place our trust in You.
Be our refuge in trials, our strength in weakness,
and our comfort in sorrow.
Pour out Your mercy upon sinners,
bring peace to our hearts,
and draw all souls to Your infinite love.
May we live according to Your will,
and at the hour of our death,
may we find rest in Your loving embrace.
Amen.
